Fateh Bagh

Fateh Bagh is likely India’s first attempt at’relocating a fallen palace,’ preserving the rich Rajput architecture. In the twentieth century, Rawla Koshilav, which flourished as a palace on the Aravallis foothills near Jodhpur in 1802, became a neglected piece of heritage. In 2002, approximately 65,000 pieces of the crumbling palace were transported to a picturesque location in Ranakpur, amidst orchards and on the banks of a rain-fed river, to create Fateh Bagh! There is plenty to keep you busy in the present: a swim in the pool, a walk through the orchards, a visit to the famous Jain and Surya temples, and an exploration of Ranakpur, a town that appears to be stuck in mediaeval times.

The imposing square-shaped beige walls and majestic arches, intricately carved pillars and pavilions, beautiful domes, and wonderful fountain in the foreground are all far from the ‘functional minimalism’ that is worshipped as design today. The palace and its hospitality are historical recreations.
